Surgical Transition and Advanced Care

This online course is based on current data from Canadian and international literature. The aim of this program is to provide increased knowledge and skills for practitioners who provide care to patients who are transgender/non-binary/gender diverse. Cultural competency has been shown to improve health care for gender diverse individuals. In this third module, we will be exploring: surgical procedures involved in gender transition/affirmation, decisions around hysterectomy and oophorectomy, issues with postop care of the neovagina and the adolescent population.

Learning objectives:
  • Recognize surgical procedures involved in gender transition/affirmation;
  • Explore decisions around hysterectomy and oophorectomy;
  • Identify issues with postop care of the neovagina;
  • Understand considerations in the adolescent population.

 
This event is an Accredited Self-Assessment Program (Section 3) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and approved by the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada. You may claim a maximum of 1.0 hour for this course.
