Intrauterine Contraception (IUC) Insertion Preceptorship

Unintended pregnancies can be prevented with effective contraception options, including intrauterine contraception (IUC). This online course provides information on how to initiate the conversation about IUC, and maintain positive communication with patients throughout and post-procedure. With four in-depth modules, the course provides a review of the practical skills and knowledge required for practitioners who would like to develop or build on their expertise for insertion of IUC options. Practitioners will also learn how to manage the care of women who are using IUC including reducing or preventing discomfort and pain, and addressing any complications such as a lost string, occurrence of pelvic inflammatory disease or IUC expulsion.

The preceptorship component of this program is optional.
If you wish to be paired with a preceptor for hands-on training (includes a minimum of 5 live IUD insertions), please email us at [email protected] and we will match you with a preceptor in your area. All preceptorships must be arranged through the SOGC after completion of the online modules.

Please note that we have currently reached the funding capacity for the hands-on portion of this course for the moment. We are hoping to be able to accept new request for preceptors soon, but for now, any new request for a preceptor pairing will be waitlisted.  We will be happy to continue receiving your request for hands-on training. However, please note that there will be a delay before you can be paired with a preceptor. Keep in mind that once further funding is secured, pairing priority will be given to those who have been waitlisted.

Access to the online portion of this course will not be impacted.
