Intrauterine Contraception (IUC) Insertion Preceptorship
Unintended pregnancies can be prevented with effective contraception options, including intrauterine contraception (IUC). This online course provides information on how to initiate the conversation about IUC, and maintain positive communication with patients throughout and post-procedure. With four in-depth modules, the course provides a review of the practical skills and knowledge required for practitioners who would like to develop or build on their expertise for insertion of IUC options. Practitioners will also learn how to manage the care of women who are using IUC including reducing or preventing discomfort and pain, and addressing any complications such as a lost string, occurrence of pelvic inflammatory disease or IUC expulsion.
The preceptorship component of this program is optional. If you wish to be paired with a preceptor for hands-on training (includes a minimum of 5 live IUD insertions), please email us at [email protected] and we will match you with a preceptor in your area. All preceptorships must be arranged through the SOGC after completion of the online modules.
IMPORTANT:
Please note that all the pairing spots for the hands-on training for the year have now been exhausted. As we are working on securing more funds, learners may still email us to request training. In doing so, they will be placed on a wait list and be the first contacted once more spots open up. The online portion of the course remains available.
The SOGC is proud to announce that this course has been approved by the BCCNM board for meeting the requirement for additional education for registered nurses with certified practice in reproductive health: contraceptive management.
This preceptorship program is supported by an educational grant from Bayer.
