Cannabis and Women’s Health
This online course is based on the key recommendations from the SOGC guidelines. The aim of this program is to provide increased knowledge and skills for practitioners who provide care to women who use cannabis. Increased practitioner awareness of and confidence in supporting informed decision-making with women about their cannabis use may be associated with improvements in health outcomes. Almost a quarter of women in Canada report using cannabis recreationally, and, roughly 300 000 medical clients are registered with federally licensed sellers of medical cannabis. To address the complexities of cannabis use in women’s health, the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada (SOGC) has developed evidence-based guidelines with areas of focus including safety, care of women who use cannabis, stigma, screening, brief intervention, referral, hormonal regulation, pelvic pain, reproductive health, sexual function, fertility, pregnancy, and breastfeeding.
