Best Practice in Procedural Abortion

This online course focuses on the topic of procedural abortion (previously called surgical abortion or induced abortion) in the first trimester of pregnancy. Later abortion and induction abortion are beyond the scope of this course. This course reviews best practices in procedural abortion. While this course is based on the upcoming SOGC Procedural Abortion Guidelines, procedural abortion is performed in both unintended and abnormal pregnancies, including for miscarriage management. In general, the management is the same for viable and non-viable pregnancy.

Learning objectives:
  • Review best practices around procedural abortion (PA) to support patients before, during and after the decision to undergo abortion;
  • Describe the current role of procedural abortion for management of unintended and abnormal pregnancies;
  • Apply current recommendations to improve abortion safety during 1st trimester.

 
This event is an Accredited Self-Assessment Program (Section 3) as defined by the Maintenance of Certification Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and approved by the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada. You may claim a maximum of 3.0 hour for this course.
