Biography
Dr. Amanda Black is a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Ottawa. She is an Associate Scientist at The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute and holds the Dr. Elaine Jolly Chair in Women’s Health Research. She is also the current President of the Society of Obstetricians and Gynecologists of Canada. She completed medical training at the University of Western Ontario, University of Ottawa, and Queen’s University and holds a Masters of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University. She is recognized as a national and international expert in women's health, with over 400 invited presentations and over 200 publications. She has worked on and developed numerous women's health initiatives during her career, including the National Contraception Awareness Program, the National Compassionate Contraception Program, website and app development, and national and international guidelines. She has provided expertise to Health Canada, StatsCanada, the Centers for Disease Control, and the World Health Organization. She continues to work “in the trenches” as a General Obstetrician/Gynecologist with a special interest in Family Planning.
