International Women's Health Programme

Committees

In 1995, the SOGC established a committee for members interested in becoming involved in international women’s health initiatives. The SOGC's international work is now supported by two committees: The International Women's Health Committee (SIWH), the ALARM International Committee and a sub-committee of the SIWH Committee on Cervical Cancer Prevention and Treatment in low resource settings.

SIWH Committee

The SIWH Committee is Co-Chaired by Dr. W. A. Ralphe Cooke (QC) and Dr. Eileen Hutton (BC), and is composed of SOGC members including representation from obstetrics/gynaecology, family physicians, nursing, junior members and midwifery.

The SIWH Committee is coordinated by Ms. Liette Perron, Director, International Women's Health

The ALARM/GESTA International Committee

The ALARM/GESTA International Committee is currently chaired by Dr. François Beaudoin (Mont-Royal, QC) and is composed of SOGC members including representation from obstetrics/gynaecology, family physicians, nursing, junior members and midwifery .

As of 2005, the ALARM International Committee is no longer a sub-committee of the International Women's Health Committee, instead the ALARM/GESTA International Committee reports directly to the SOGC Council.

The ALARM International Committee is coordinated by Ms. Suzanne Plourde, International Health Specialist.
