Bursary for Nurses and Midwives

Description

The purpose of this bursary is to provide financial support to nurses or midwives to enable them to
meet specific learning needs and those of their community. This clinical professional development
opportunity may involve, but is not restricted to, the acquisition of technical knowledge or skills in the
areas of obstetrics/gynaecology and/or sexual and reproductive health. The traineeship consists of an active, individualized, and practical experience related to clearly defined educational objectives.

Funding is provided by the Foundation for the Promotion of Sexual and Reproductive Health (FPSRH) whose mission is to promote and support educational initiatives in the field of sexual and reproductive health.

Bursary

This bursary consists of $3,000 for the nurse or midwife. In addition, $1,000 will be awarded to the host institution providing the traineeship to help cover expenses. Recipients will be recognized at the Annual Clinical Meeting Awards Ceremony (June). Payment will be issued in two installments,
the first upon bursary announcement and the second upon receipt of the final report, which is a detailed account of the traineeship.

Time and location of tenure

The traineeship is to be provided in Canada. The Award Committee may consider an alternate location if the training sought is not available in Canada. The traineeship must take place during the 18 months following the date that the bursary was awarded.

Eligibility


• Applicant must be a nurse or midwife SOGC member in good standing;
• Applicants must indicate if they are receiving additional subsidies for the intended traineeship; and
• The learning activity or clinical update is to be of a duration of no more than 8 weeks.

Communication Plan

The bursary recipient shall submit a onepage biography and an electronic photograph. A photo and mention of the bursary will be included in the SOGC News (the Society’s newsletter).

Application Deadline

Submissions must be received by the SOGC by February 15 th and November 15 th of each year. Complete the attached application form.

Selection

The selection committee is composed of members of the Nurse and Midwife Advisory Committees. Submissions are evaluated on the overall merit of the traineeship and the benefits to the applicant and their community.
