Junior Member Grants

Junior Member Elective Grant in International Women's Health (Millennium Fellowship)

Description

The purpose of this fellowship is to assist residents wishing to pursue elective training in international women's health. The general objectives are to allow interested residents to develop a better understanding of women's health issues and the practice of obstetrics and gynaecology in a developing country, and the appreciation for the work conducted by fellow health professionals in those countries. The elective should provide the recipient of the Fellowship with an active, individualized and practical experience in a developing country related to clearly defined education objectives.

Funding is provided by the Foundation for the Promotion of Reproductive and Sexual Health whose mission is to promote and support educational initiatives in the field of sexual and reproductive health.

Award

The recipient will be awarded $4,000 and the host medical institution in the developing country will receive $1,000 Canadian. Grant recipients will be recognized at the Annual Clinical Meeting's Awards Ceremony.

Eligibility

  • Applicant must be a Junior Member of the SOGC in good standing at time of application.
  • Applicant must be enrolled in a residency training program in Canada.
  • The traineeship must be spent in a clinical setting in a developing country within one year of the Fellowship adjudication.
  • The learning activity is to take the form of a short period (2 to 4 months) of clinical update.
New deadline dates for grant applications
  • November 15: For (future) electives taking place between January 1st and June 30th (of the next year)
  • May 15: For (future) electives taking place between July 1st and December 31st (of the same year)

Support

Funding is provided by the Foundation for the Promotion of Reproductive and Sexual Health (FPRSH) whose mission is to promote and support educational initiatives in the field of sexual and reproductive health. These Fellowships are made possible from the unrestricted educational grants provided by:

Bayer HealthCare, Janssen-Ortho, Organon Canada Inc., and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals.

Selection

Submissions are evaluated on the overall merit of the traineeship and the benefits to the physician and their community.
