Media Advisory 2021 SOGC/CFWH Journalism Award for Excellence in Women's Health Reporting

Call for submissions now open

Ottawa, June 29, 2021 - The Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada (SOGC) and the Canadian Foundation for Women's Health (CFWH) are calling for submissions for the 2021 SOGC/CFWH Journalism Award for Excellence in Women’s Health Reporting. This award recognizes journalists, reporters, and producers who have excelled in communicating information on women’s sexual and reproductive health issues to the public. The award comes with a $1,000 cash prize.

To be eligible, publications or broadcasts must have appeared in a Canadian consumer newspaper, magazine, podcast or broadcast report between May 1, 2020 and April 30, 2021. We accept submissions in both English and French.

Reaching the Canadian public at large with relevant and critical health information is an important objective for both organizations. This is why it is so important to recognize those who helped advance women’s health through their articles and broadcast stories. Public awareness, attitudes and behaviours are greatly influenced by the information Canadians receive in print, broadcast and online media outlets.

Submitted articles and reports will be judged by a panel of women’s health experts and communication professionals. Evaluation is based on the overall merit of the entry, with an emphasis on the following criteria:

  • Originality and creativity
  • Substance of the story
  • Interpretation of medical information
  • Quality of writing and presentation
  • Education benefit to women
  • Relevance and effectiveness

To apply, please send a cover letter, description of the work, and a copy of the published or broadcasted journalism piece to [email protected] no later than August 1, 2021.
