If grapes could talk® (Virtual wine tasting)

Presented by: Dr. Michael Yan, DipWSET

There is much to celebrate about Canadian wine! Today, the wine regions of Canada produce world class wines that can proudly take their place on any wine list. This curated virtual wine tasting event will feature three grape varietals that highlight the successes of BC’s Okanagan Valley and Ontario’s Niagara Peninsula. Discussion of each wine will explore some of the challenges of growing wine grapes at a northern latitude and why these three chosen grape varietals excel in their respective locations.

Since this virtual tasting is taking place from coast-to-coast, it is not feasible to select specific wines that would be available in all regions across our vast nation. Therefore we have selected the following grape varietals, along with recommendations if they are available in your local market.

1) Riesling from either BC or Ontario. If available, suggested examples include Cave Spring, Tawse, Henry of Pelham, Tantalus, Synchromesh.

2) Cabernet Franc from Ontario. If available look for Tawse, Fielding Estate, and Pearl Morissette.

3) Syrah from British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley. If available, consider Laughing Stock, Sandhill, Mission Hill, and Le Vieux Pin.

If the above recommendations are not available in your region, your local retailer should be able to suggest a suitable alternative.

Please join us for this virtual wine tour of Canada’s two largest wine regions!
