Biography
Dr. Jessica Dy (pronounced Dee), MD MPH FRCSC Dr. Jessica Dy is the Division Head of General Obstetrics and Gynecology and is an Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Ottawa. She received her BSc in Honours Physiology from UBC (1995) and her medical degree from the University of Western Ontario (1999). She completed residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Ottawa in 2004. She obtained her Master's Degree in Public Health (MPH) at the Harvard School of Public Health (2010). She also received additional training in physician leadership and quality with the Telfer School of Management and the Canadian Foundation for Healthcare Improvement. As Vice Chair of Quality and Patient Safety of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Newborn Care (2010 - 2018), Dr. Dy led many quality improvement initiatives in labour management, induction of labour, and Cesarean and VBAC practices. She was the principal investigator of a multi-center randomized labour trial on the use of oxytocin in nulliparous women in labour. She co-authored the SOGC Clinical Practice Guidelines on Induction of Labour, Management of Labour, and the updated VBAC Guideline (with Dr. Jon Barrett). While maintaining a busy academic practice in general obstetrics and gynecology in Ottawa, she stays actively involved with regional and provincial bodies (BORN, PCMCH, Champlain Maternal Newborn Regional Program, ALARM).
