Diagnosis and Management of Placenta Previa
The incidence of placenta previa is increasing, and an appropriate diagnosis is important to ensure women receive the care they need throughout gestation. Placenta previa is a condition where the placenta overlies the cervix, while low-lying placenta occurs when the placenta is close to the cervical os. The 2020 SOGC Clinical Practice Guideline for the Diagnosis and Management of Placenta Previa reviews the classification, diagnosis and antenatal management of placenta previa and low-lying placenta. The guideline also presents up to date evidence for delivery planning. After reviewing the guideline, SOGC members may complete the Guideline Resource Kit which includes an online quiz that will contribute towards continuing medical education credits, and download resources including a risk factor checklist and classification of placenta previa and low-lying placenta reminder sheet.
