Sustaining health care provider wellness in a pandemic

In this two-part "COVID-19 101" module, participants will be able to: appreciate the pathophysiology of chronic stress; recognize the potential for burnout, unstable anxiety and vicarious trauma providing care in a pandemic; develop strategies to self-assess and appraise risk in our colleagues with actionable response to concern; and cultivate resilience through evidence-based practices and prioritize wellness as not just a virtue but an essential feature to a healthy work environment.

Participants will also be able to: understand the role of grief in provider burnout, identify its “many faces” and wide range of symptoms with positive adaptations to improve outcomes; appreciate information overload as a feature of a novel disease crisis with practical strategies to help navigate both academic literature and popular media; and develop an evidence-based set of activities and interventions that reduce and even reverse the negative effects of chronic stress and promote provider wellness.
