Investigation & Management: Adnexal & Benign Ovarian Masses

Investigation & Management: Adnexal & Benign Ovarian Masses
Diagnosis of an ovarian lesion is often associated with fear for women. The 2020 SOGC Clinical Practice Guideline for the Management of the Benign Ovarian Lesion outlines the management of ovarian lesions that are characterized as benign on ultrasound. The guideline reviews management of patients who are asymptomatic or symptomatic with ovarian lesions, as well as technical considerations for surgery.  Ovarian cancer affects 2800 women annually in Canada. Adnexal masses, although usually benign, can be screened and assessed to rule out ovarian cancer. The 2020 SOGC Clinical Practice Guideline for the Initial Evaluation of and Referral for Adnexal/Ovarian Masses provides up to date evidence-based recommendations to assist in the triage and management of adnexal masses.  After reviewing both guidelines, SOGC members can register and complete the Guideline Resource Kit, including an online quiz contributable towards continuing medical education credits, as well as download additional resources such as a summary checklist.
