The Society shall be composed of five categories of membership:

Active (I and II), Associate, Retired Life and Honorary

Active Membership

All Active members shall consist of medical doctors who have displayed a particular interest in and knowledge of cervical diseases and thus are capable of and willing to assist the Society in attaining its goals and purposes.  Active membership within the Society carries the responsibility that, if requested by the Provincial Regional Colposcopy Program where applicable, he or she will become involved in that program.

Category I

Active members in this category must:

i) have obtained their certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology in Canada,

-and-

ii) have successfully completed a recognized training program in colposcopy and its related treatment methods as outlined in the Document on Training Requirements by the Society or been a member prior to December 30, 1990.

Category II

Active members in this category must:

i) have obtained their certification from either the RCPS (CAN) or CCFP or a post-graduate degree,

 -and-

ii) have demonstrated and documented interest in at least one aspect of the detection and treatment of cervical disease,

-or-

have successfully completed a recognized training program in colposcopy and its related treatment methods as outlined in the Document on Training Requirements by the Society or been a member prior to December 30, 1990.

Active membership privileges for Categories I & II

  • Voting rights
  • Paying annual dues
  • The right to hold administrative office
  • Receiving all correspondence pertaining to the functions of the Society

Associate Membership

To include physicians or other associated health personnel who are not practicing colposcopy but have a scientific commitment, interest and have made a contribution to the science of colposcopy.

Members of other colposcopy societies requesting membership in the Society of Canadian Colposcopists will be considered for membership within this category. Persons admitted to the Society of Canadian Colposcopists within the category of Associate membership will:

  • be given a reduced fee on an annual basis
  • will not have voting rights
  • will not be able to hold an executive position
  • upon reaching the age of 65 or upon retiring from active service, by written request may remain in the Society within the Retired Life Membership category.

Retired Life Membership

Members of the Society of Canadian Colposcopists who have either retired from active practice or who have reached the age of 65 shall enter this category upon request in writing from the individual.

  • These persons will be able to attend all meetings and receive the Society correspondence
  • They will not have voting privileges
  • They will not pay membership dues
  • They will not be able to hold administrative office

Honorary Membership

Persons may be considered for membership in this category in recognition of:

  • Being a (keynote) guest speaker at the Society’s Annual Scientific Sessions
  • Being an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to colposcopy in this country (Canada)

In this category, the name of an individual being considered for Honorary Membership must be proposed, in writing, be an Active member of the Society and voted upon by the membership.  A majority vote at the Annual General Meeting will be sufficient for entry to the Honorary Membership category.

An individual within this category will:

  • Receive correspondence pertaining to notices of the Annual Scientific Sessions but not all the correspondence pertaining to Society functions.
  • Will not pay dues
  • Will not have voting privileges
  • Will not be able to hold administrative office
