IS 6: Optimizing HPV Prevention in Sexually Active Women

At the end of the session, participants will be able to:
- Discuss the burden of HPV in men and women including cancers, pre-cancers, genital warts and secondary risk related cancers;
- Discuss age specific prevalence and cumulative risk for low and high risk types of infection;
- Review key elements of the sexual behavior patterns in industrialized countries;
- Describe the contribution of HPV testing to general population screening for cervical cancer prevention;
- Recognize the flaws in our current practice of colposcopy and how to improve the sensitivity of colposcopy for high grade dysplasia and cancer;
- Explain how the interpretation of abnormal test/biopsies and the utility of HPV vaccination changes with age;
- Identify behavioral script as a tool to increase comfort in discussing HPV prevention/immunization;
- Appreciate various resources that encourage patient adherence to guidelines.
