Millennium Fellowships for University/Hospital Based Physicians
The purpose of this fellowship is to support physicians, who are currently full time faculty, who wish to improve their research or increase their clinical surgical expertise by visiting a centre of recognized excellence in their area of interest. The professional development is to be provided at a centre of excellence, providing the specialist with an active, individualized and practical experience related to clearly defined objectives.
Amount of award
Recipients will be awarded $4,000 for their fellowship. In addition, $1,000 will be awarded to the host institution providing the traineeship to assist in covering office expenses. Grant recipients will be recognized at the Annual Clinical Meeting’s Awards Ceremony.
Time and location of tenure
The professional development is to be provided by a Canadian medical centre within one year of the Fellowship adjudication. The Award Committee may consider an alternative location if the training sought is not available anywhere in Canada.
Support
Funding is provided by the Foundation for the Promotion of Reproductive and Sexual Health (FPRSH) whose mission is to promote and support educational initiatives in the field of sexual and reproductive health. These Fellowships are made possible from the unrestricted educational grants provided by:
Bayer HealthCare, Janssen-Ortho, Organon Canada Inc., and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals.
Eligibility
Applicants must be an obstetrician/gynaecologist SOGC member in good standing at the time of application and full time faculty at a Canadian university or hospital.
Preference will be given to members who have practiced for more than five years.
Applicants must indicate if they are receiving additional subsidies or grants for the intended traineeship.
The learning activity is to take the form of a short period (4 to 8 weeks) of clinical update. This training can be taken continuously or in blocks of 2 to 4 weeks over an 18 month period.
Procedures for application
An application shall include the following documents:
The application form completed and signed
A description of the specific area of expertise, the desired area of study, the objectives to be achieved, and the benefits of this fellowship study to the specialist and his/her community.
A letter of support from the Chair or Division Head where the study is to be undertaken, including the planned activities and the name of a supervisor.
A one-page biographical profile

Selection
The selection committee will be comprised of SOGC and APOG representatives. Submissions are evaluated on the overall merit of the traineeship and the benefits to the physician and their community.
Fellowship adjudication
The fellowship will be issued in two instalments, the first one upon adjudication and the second upon receipt of a final report, which is a detailed account of your fellowship.
